The science turned a corner—scientific breakeven, producing more energy than a reaction consumes, was demonstrated in 2022. Superconducting magnets and AI-driven plasma simulation have compressed timelines that once stretched across decades. The physics is no longer the question, the race is now engineering, and engineering races get won.

Capital and policy have followed. Funding reported since 2021 stands at $14.2B, a seven-fold increase. Utilities and hyperscalers are signing power agreements before plants come online.
